Our community came together on Thursday 6th June to commemorate 80 years since the iconic D-Day landings.
The day began with pupils from West Pennard CofE School parading along Church Lane to the Village Hall. Many children were dressed as evacuees. The route was lined with cheering family, friends & villagers. Following the parade the community joined the children in the Hall for an emotional rendition of music (with accompanying hand gestures and sign language) reminiscent of the period & bringing back memories for many attending. It was a special morning bringing everyone together & forming new memories. In the evening our community joined the Nation by lighting our “lamp light of peace” beacon on Hawkins Hill, & once again came together watching the sun go down.
Our sincere thanks to the staff and children of West Pennard CofE School, the Hawkins family and everyone who joined our community to create an incredibly special day.
